Overview: Odsonne Edouard is a 22 year old right footed French Striker who stands at 6ft 1in tall and he can also play on the right wing if necessary.
Technical:
Edouard displayed an excellent first touch and good close control throughout the match. On several occasions he was able to turn on the ball towards goal in one complete smooth action which adds real dynamism to his teams attacks. When running at opposition players he is able to keep the ball close to his feet with short precise touches displaying outstanding agility and technical skill to create space 1v1 which in turn resulted in a penalty box entry and pulling opposition players and the defensive line out of shape. His short passing is well weighted and smooth giving the receiving player the best possible chance of control. Edouard had two penalty box chances – the first of which a volley arriving across his body at knee height this was central to the goal and he showed excellent technique to hit a first time half volley that struck the outside of the right hand post. His second chance was on the left hand angle as he cut inside towards goal onto his favoured right foot and side footed a low finish towards the bottom left corner which was saved. Although neither of these actions resulted in a goal they were technically executed well and his decision making was correct on both occasions. He did not make any longer or progressive passes on this showing.
Tactical:
Edouard tends to not play on the shoulder and likes to step away from the defensive line keeping around a 3 yard distance throughout. He is always alert following the balls path checking his shoulders and showing positive attacking intent. Edouard shows excellent spacial awareness and intelligence to think one or two attacking moves ahead adjusting his run or position relative to the ball and the changing pace of the attack. He has a tendency to come short and make near post runs on the blind side of the defender when the ball is in a potential crossing position. Edouard has a tendency to not compete fully or look to engage in aerial duels. He plays between the width of the penalty box and does not make any channel runs. A big part of his game is to come short for quick combination play in order to create potential shooting opportunities. He occupies the half space between centre backs very well and as result was always in good areas of space and available to receive the ball.
Physical:
Edouard stands at 6ft 1in tall and has an excellently proportioned frame and build for his size. He is strong enough to protect the ball when necessary but still retains the agility and lateral movement to alter his body shape and change direction at speed. Due to the oppositions low block i was unable to judge any sprints. He displays smooth balanced running mechanics with and without the ball and had requisite pace to move away from players with ease from a standing start.
Summary:
Odsonne Edouard is a technically proficient, athletic striker who is tactically and positionally aware. He displayed a good variety of finishes and showed solid decision making in all aspects of his game throughout. He showed a reluctance to engage in aerial duels but was brave in all other aspects of his game.
